Twisted bilayer graphene. II. Stable symmetry anomaly

چکیده
We show that the entire continuous model of twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) (and not just two active bands) with particle-hole symmetry is anomalous and hence incompatible a lattice model. Previous works, e.g., [Phys. Rev. Lett. 123, 036401], X 9, 021013], B 99, 195455], others [1-4] found flat bands in TBG possess fragile topology protected by $C_{2z}T$ symmetry. 036401] also pointed out an approximate ($\mathcal{P}$) TBG. In this work, we numerically confirm $\mathcal{P}$ indeed good approximation for enhanced to $\mathcal{P}$-protected stable topology. This implies $4l+2$ ($l\in\mathbb{N}$) Dirac points between middle bands. The robust against arbitrary gap closings other further that, remarkably, topology, as well corresponding $4l + 2$ points, cannot be realized models preserve both symmetries. words, on lattices. Two related topics, consequences interacting problem, i.e., choice Chern band basis perfect metal phase so-called second chiral limit, are discussed.

Broken-Symmetry Quantum Hall States in Twisted Bilayer Graphene
Twisted bilayer graphene offers a unique bilayer two-dimensional-electron system where the layer separation is only in sub-nanometer scale. Unlike Bernal-stacked bilayer, the layer degree of freedom is disentangled from spin and valley, providing eight-fold degeneracy in the low energy states. We have investigated broken-symmetry quantum Hall (QH) states and their transitions due to the interpl...

The charge susceptibility of twisted bilayer graphene is investigated in the Dirac cone, respectively, randomphase approximation. For small enough twist angles θ ≲ 2° , we find genuine interband plasmons, i.e., collective excitonic modes that exist in the undoped material with an almost constant energy dispersion. In this regime, the loss function can be described as a Fano resonance, and we ar...

متن کاملQuantum Hall effect in twisted bilayer graphene.
We address the quantum Hall behavior in twisted bilayer graphene transferred from the C face of SiC. The measured Hall conductivity exhibits the same plateau values as for a commensurate Bernal bilayer. This implies that the eightfold degeneracy of the zero energy mode is topologically protected despite rotational disorder as recently predicted. In addition, an anomaly appears. The densities at...
متن کاملThermal conductivity of twisted bilayer graphene.
We have investigated experimentally the thermal conductivity of suspended twisted bilayer graphene. The measurements were performed using an optothermal Raman technique. It was found that the thermal conductivity of twisted bilayer graphene is lower than that of monolayer graphene and the reference, Bernal stacked bilayer graphene in the entire temperature range examined (∼300-700 K). This find...
